After being extremely dissappointed in Destiny, and you can find out why here, I went and picked up Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS. I purchased it because my brother and one of our friends already had it. Personally I was holding out for when the Wii U version came out, and even then was holding out on the Wii U until my kids get a little older. I'm glad I didn't wait, and here are three reasons why:
#1 Nostalgia
There is nothing like sitting back and choosing from 49 different classic Nintendo (and Sega, and some other classic arcade guests) and letting them smash each other all over the map. The game itself is a classic series, and when you add in the characters from all over the video game world it invokes so many childhood memories of staying up all night trying to beat Zelda in one sitting, or first experiencing the loss of a Fire Emblem character you can't get revive. Then they added Mega Man, the dog from Duck Hunt, Little mac, and Pac-Man, I mean, talk about blasts from the past! For the feel-good feeling alone this game is worth every penny.
#2 Massive Amount Of Things To Do
I found myself holding out on the game because all of the Smash Brothers games for me were party games. When people would come over we would play, simple as that. The idea of Super Smash Bros.on a handheld had me scared that I would rarely play it. After engaging with it for just a short while, I realized my worries where misplaced. There are so many mini games, challenges, and unlockables that I put a whole bunch of hours into it fairly quickly. This was before I ever played with anyone I knew. You can even jump on and play against other people, whether it be for fun or even a ranked section. This won't be a game that just sits until we have a Smash night.
#3 Its Smash Brothers
There are certain game franchises that are just great. Super Smash Bros. is one of them. Every single game is just fantastic and fun. There really aren't too many downsides to such a strong franchise.
If I had to pick one negative for the game, it would be the small screen. But even then it isn't a big enough of negative to not get it. I thought it would be terrible, especially as my eyes get older I can't take the screen for huge amounts of time, but it really isn't bad. They did a really good job with their camera angles and other game play mechanics that it works. The game is definitely more suited to 1v1s and battles of 3s, but with how much stuff is in it, it is worth it.
So if you have been on the fence, stop it and order it now. Super Smash Bros.is just a great game.
